Mogyoróska
Mogyoróska is a village in Gönc District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population in 2024 was 78.
Location
It lies in the Zemplén Mountains, 63 kilometres northeast of the county seat of Miskolc by road.
The immediate neighbours are Regéc to the north, Háromhuta to the north-east, Erdőhorváti to the south-east, Baskó to the south and Fony to the west. Fony and Regéc are both about 4 to 4 km away, with larger distances separating them from their other neighbours. The two nearest towns are Abaújszántó, 21 km away, and Encs, 25 km away.
History
Mogyoróska was first mentioned in 1363. In the 15th century it belonged to the Giskra family, then to the Szapolyai family. During the Turkish occupation, its population dwindled and was replaced by Rusyns.
Population
In 2022, 96.2% of the population identified as Hungarian, 16.5% as Rusyn, 3.8% as Slovak, 2.5% as German, and 12.7% as other non-local nationalities (due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). Regarding religion, 22.8% were Roman Catholic, 11.4% Reformed, 44.3% Greek Catholic, 3.8% other Christian, and 1.3% non-religious (15.2% did not answer).[1]
