The Nintendo Network was the online service for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. A Nintendo Network ID was required to use it on Wii U, with some apps and features locked away without one on 3DS. The service offered online play until April 8, 2024, and until Monday March 27th, 2023, also offered the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. Until June 2020, if you linked the Nintendo Network ID with your Nintendo Account, you could also use the service to log into the Nintendo Account system used by the Nintendo Switch and the My Nintendo rewards program.
History
Nintendo Network had leaked early from box art of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy that had the logo. It had seemed at first to be a rebranding of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service was revealed January 26, 2012, and had support for Wii U at the system's launch.
Discontinuation
On April 8, 2024, the service shut down.[1]
