The Nintendo Switch 2 is a video game console developed by Nintendo. It was revealed on 16 January 2025. There was a big disagreement when Nintendo revealed the price to be $450 USD, with Mario Kart World being revealed to be $79.99 USD.[7] It supports some Nintendo Switch games, though not all of them.[8][9]
Games
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour
- Donkey Kong Bananza
- Drag X Drive
- Fast Fusion
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Kirby Air Riders
- Mario Kart World
Some games for the first Nintendo Switch are available, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Mario Odyssey.
New features
- There is a second USB-C port at the top of the device (The Switch 1 only had one USB-C port).[10][11]
- A webcam accessory is now available.[12][13] Or, certain smartphones can be used as a webcam.[14][15]
- Microphone(s) that can filter out the background noise.
Criticisms
- It is expensive, but it does not come with a free game. It is believed that the Wii was successful because it came with Wii Sports for free;[19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27] the Wii MotionPlus came together with Wii Sports Resort.
- The Game-Key card requires an internet connection to work for the first time. This is disappointing to many players, because standard game cards "provide a strong sense of ownership".[28] The "standard game card" only comes in 64 gigabytes.[29][30] Many games are either too small or too big to be on the 64 GB card.[31]
- The device could lose access to online services, if Nintendo suspects that the user had used pirated software, or had used a modified flash cartridge to hack the system.[32][33]
Even though the term "brick" is frequently used by Switch 2 owners, "bricking" is actually a figurative usage of the English language. A "bricked device" is literally "technically malfunctioning or a useless piece of hardware", which is not the case if a Switch 2 had been banned by Nintendo as a matter of company policy.[34]

As it comes free with every Wii console outside Japan, I'm not quite sure if calling it "World Number One" is exactly the right way to describe it, but in any case it's surpassed the record set by Super Mario Bros., which was unbroken for over twenty years.
