Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (commonly known as SSBU or Ultimate) is the fifth video game in the Super Smash Bros. series. It was made by Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch video game console.

Characters

All of the characters that appeared in the first four games return in Ultimate.[1] Ultimate also adds new characters, including Splatoon's Inklings and Metroid's Ridley. Eleven characters are currently available as downloadable content.[2]

Gameplay

The gameplay of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is similar to older games in the franchise. The game is a platform fighter. Up to eight players can play on a single Switch. The playable characters include Nintendo original characters and third-party characters. There is a percentage mode where the more a character is hit, the higher the character's damage goes up. That damage meter is the percentage mode. For example, a character at 20% has a lot less damage than another fighter at 100% damage. There are three standard gameplay modes with different victory conditions.

Timed Mode

Timed mode is an option. The goal of this mode is to get the most KOs (knockouts) in the set timeframe. Knocking out an opponent will reward you one point and subtracts one from the opponent you knocked out. This is the same vice versa. Whoever gets the most points wins.

Stock Mode

Stock mode is another option. Stocks are your lives in the game. Every time you get knocked out, you lose one stock. If you lose all of your stocks, you lose the game. Whoever survives the longest wins.

Stamina Mode

Stamina mode is the final mode of the game. You get hit-points (HP) which decrease eventually to zero every time you get hit with an attack. The goal of this mode is to be the last player standing and knock out all the other players. This mode also requires you to have a set number of stocks at the beginning of the game.
