The Peace and Democracy Party (Turkish: Barış ve Demokrasi Partisi, Kurdish: Partiya Aştî û Demokrasiyê, BDP) was a Kurdish political party in Turkey from 2008 to 2014.[3]
Ideology
The party's chairman wants the PKK to disarm.[4] The BDP is an observer party in the Socialist International.[5] The BDP supported Turkey joining the European Union.[6] They also support same-sex marriages in Turkey,[7] an anti-discrimination law to protect LGBT people,[6] and they want the Government of Turkey to recognize the Armenian genocide.[8]
Legal prosecution
The BDP has reported that from April 2009 to October 2011, over 7500 BDP members were imprisoned. 3000 of their members were arrested.[9]
Reorganisation
In 11 July 2014, their name was changed to the Democratic Regions Party. They created a new structure for their party.[10]
