Sima

Sima is a village in Gönc District of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County. Its population in 2024 was 32.

Location

It is located in the western part of the Zemplén Mountains, northeast of Abaújszántó. The nearby neighboring settlements are Baskó to the north, Erdőbénye to the southeast, Abaújszántó to the southwest, Abaújkér to the west, and Boldogkőújfalu to the northwest.

History

Sima and its surroundings have been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by the remains of a Stone Age settlement found near the village in the 1800s. The name of the settlement is mentioned in a document of István Bocskai of 12 December 1605, in which he grants land and privileges to the Hajdús who support him.

Population

In 2022, 78.8% of the population identified as Hungarian, 12.1% as Rusyn, 9.1% as German, and 9.1% as other non-local nationalities (18.2% did not respond; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). Regarding religion, 18.2% were Greek Catholic, 6.1% Reformed, 18.2% Roman Catholic, and 15.2% non-religious (42.4% did not answer).[1]
