Sushila Karki (born 7 June 1952) is a Nepalese jurist, author, and politician who has been the interim Prime Minister of Nepal since 12 September 2025. She is the first woman in Nepal's history to hold the position.[2]
Prime Minister
After the 2025 Generation Z-led anti-corruption protests forced Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli to resign, an interim government was needed and Karki's name was recommended by some activists because of her political neutrality.[3] After a poll on Discord, protester server members picked Karki out of five options.[4] The appointment was supported by the Nepalese army.[4][5] On 12 September 2025, the Federal Parliament of Nepal was dissolved[6] and Karki was sworn in as interim Prime Minister.[7][8]
Personal life
Karki is married to Durga Prasad Subedi, a member and youth wing leader of Nepali Congress.[9][10] They met while studying in Banaras Hindu University.[11] They have at least one child.[9]
