William Rufus DeVane King (April 7, 1786 – April 18, 1853) was a U.S. representative from North Carolina, a U.S. senator from Alabama, and the 13th vice president of the United States. Ecept for John Tyler and Andrew Johnson, both of whom ascended to the presidency, he was the shortest-serving person to occupy that office (45 days) since he died shortly after his term started (see List of vice presidents of the United States by time in office).
