Problems
Explosion problems
On September of 2016, the first explosions of this device were reported, these incidents led to the device being banned on planes and many other forms of public transport, Samsung started offering recall and exchange of affected devices,[1] [2] but later reports of exchanged devices exploding surfaced. Samsung responded by cancelling the change program, ending production of the device and requesting that all owners of the phone return it,[3] a later investigation was discovered that the problem was a defect in the battery manufacturing.[4][5][6]
On December of 2016 Samsung started to send updates to disable and limit the charge of the phone for the people that chose not to return it, first the update limited to 60%, then 30% and on January of 2017 disabled the ability to charge the device, effectively bricking them.[7][8]
