"Whatever Gets You Thru the Night" is a 1974 song by John Lennon and was the lead single from his fifth studio album Walls and Bridges. It was the only number 1 in the United States in his lifetime and also went to number 2 in Canada, number 12 in Italy and number 15 in South Africa. It was covered by Elton John live in 1981.
