Royal Rumble (1999) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event made by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). It took place on January 24, 1999, at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim in Anaheim, California. It was the 12th Royal Rumble event held by the WWF.

Background

As is the case every year since the event's beginning, the event's main event was the 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royal, also known as the Royal Rumble match. The match started with two wrestlers and a new one was added every 90 seconds. To eliminate an opposing wrestler he must be thrown over the top rope and have both his two feet hit the floor, this continued until there was only one man left, who was named the winner. The winner received a match for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania XV.

Footnotes

  1. Mankind did not actually lose per the rules, because he did not directly say "I quit", but Shane McMahon played a recording of Mankind saying the words instead when Mankind was unconscious.
  2. No. 11 was originally drawn by Headbanger Mosh, who was attacked and replaced by Mabel on his way to the ring. Mideon, Faarooq, and Bradshaw (who were not official entrants) eliminated Mabel and he joined the Ministry of Darkness as "Viscera" the next night on Raw.
