Sapperton is a train station in New Westminster, British Columbia. It is located at 20 Spruce Street. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for their Expo Line and their Lougheed branch.
The station was built in 2002 and opened on January 2. When TransLink was building the Millennium Line, they decided to start building new stations with Sapperton being one of them. TransLink hired the architecture firm Hancock Bruckner Eng & Wright to build the station.[1] The station was originally part of the Millennium Line when the line ran from Waterfront to Braid. On October 22, 2016, the station was made part of the Expo Line after the Millennium Line Evergreen Extension was created and lines were redesigned.[2]
It is an elevated station, featuring two tracks and side platforms. It is preceded by Columbia towards Waterfront and ends at Braid towards Production Way–University. In 2024, it was ranked at #44 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[3] Between the two platforms, a large wheel sits and i part of a public art project. It used to be powered by a bicycle in the concourse of the station but it has since been removed.
In July 2004, TransLink ordered work to be done on the tiles of the station so that they were less slippery.[4]
Sapperton station is the only station to not feature a bus connection.[5]
Around the station is the Royal Columbian Hospital and the head office for TransLink.
