Itzy (Korean: 있지; sometimes written in all capital letters) is a South Korean girl group formed by JYP Entertainment. The group has five members: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna.[1] They are known for their energetic dancing and songs about confidence and self-love.
Itzy started in early 2019 by releasing their first single album, It'z Different, and the music video for the song "Dalla Dalla". Name
The group's name, Itzy, comes from the Korean word itji (있지), which means "to have".[2] The members say that it means they have everything their fans want.
History
2015–2019: How the group began
Itzy's members became trainees at JYP Entertainment between 2015 and 2017. Chaeryeong joined after appearing on the TV shows K-Pop Star 3 and Sixteen. Ryujin was scouted at a concert, and Yuna was discovered at a music festival. Yeji and Lia joined through auditions.
Itzy started in early 2019 by releasing their first single album, It'z Different, with the song "Dalla Dalla".[3] In July, the group's fans were given the name Midzy (믿지). The name comes from the Korean word midji (믿어), which means "trust".[4] That same month, they released their first EP, It'z Icy, with the song "Icy".[5] In their first year, they became the first girl group to win Rookie of the Year at all five major Korean award shows.[6]

The album also included the songs "Swipe" and "#Twenty".[12] At the end of the year, they released a Japanese album called It'z Itzy, which included a collection of their earlier songs.[13]
