Hwang Ye-ji (Korean: 황예지; born May 26, 2000), better known as Yeji, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is the leader of the girl group Itzy, which was formed by JYP Entertainment in 2019. Yeji released her first solo EP, Air, in March 2025.
Early life
Yeji was born on May 26, 2000, in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in Jeonju.[1][2] While in elementary school she became interested in dancing and joined a local dance group.[3] She attended Jeonju Commercial Information High School.[4]
Career
2015–2018: Before debut
In 2015, Yeji joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee after passing an audition where she performed Twice's song "Like Ooh-Ahh".[5] In 2017, she appeared in the first episode of Stray Kids with Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna, who later became her groupmates.[6] In 2018, she was on the TV show The Fan, where she was called "JYP’s Secret Weapon".[7]
2019–present: Itzy and solo songs
Yeji started with Itzy in 2019, when they released their first single album, It'z Different, and the song "Dalla Dalla".[8] In 2023, she released a music video for her solo song "Crown On My Head".[9] In 2024, she sang "Think about you" for the TV show Love Your Enemy.[10] In 2025, Yeji released her first solo EP, Air.[11]
