The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders are a Minor League Baseball team from Moosic, Pennsylvania, in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area.[1] They play baseball at the Triple-A (AAA) level, the most difficult level before Major League Baseball, against other baseball teams in the International League (a group of 20 baseball teams at the same level).[1] The Bats are partnered with the New York Yankees, a Major League Baseball team. When a player shows that he plays well at this level, he may be moved up to play for the Yankees.
The team started playing baseball in 1989 as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. The team changed their name to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in 2007 and the RailRiders in 2013 because Northeastern Pennsylvania is home to the first trolley system in the United States.
The RailRiders have played at a stadium called PNC Field since 1989. They played at a few different stadiums in 2012 while their home stadium was being rennovated.
