The Toledo Mud Hens are a Minor League Baseball team from Toledo, Ohio.[1] They play baseball at the Triple-A (AAA) level, the most difficult level before Major League Baseball, against other baseball teams in the International League (a group of 20 baseball teams at the same level).[1] The Mud Hens are partnered with the Detroit Tigers, a Major League Baseball team. When a player shows that he plays well at this level, he may be moved up to play for the Tigers.
The team is called the "Mud Hens" because a former baseball team from Toledo played near a marsh where American coots, also known as "mud hens," lived.[2]
The Mud Hens played at a stadium called Ned Skeldon Stadium from 1965 to 2001. In 2002, the team began to play at a new stadium called Fifth Third Field.
