22nd Street is a train station in New Westminster, British Columbia. It is located at 649 22nd Street. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for their Expo Line.
The station was built in 1985 and opened on December 11. Austrian company Architektengruppe U-Bahn built the station so that people were able to move around on transit during Expo 86.[1] There was a park and ride lot that was supposed to be built sometime in September 1990 but it ended up not being built.[2] 22nd Street station is named after the street that it is located on.
It is an elevated station, featuring two tracks and side platforms. It is preceded by Edmonds towards Waterfront and ends at New Westminster towards either King George or Production Way–University. In 2024, it was ranked at #18 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[3]
In April 2019, TransLink spent $2.8-million to upgrade and include their first charging station for its battery electric buses at the station.[4][5] In 2023, TransLink ordered new upgrades for the station. The upgrades are so that the station can handle the newly purchased 5 train cars. Other upgrades include a second staircase on the north for better emergency access and better walkways along the tracks so SkyTrain employees can better maintain the tracks.[6]
The station serves as a connection for the 100, 101, 104, 128, 155, 340, 388, 410, and 418 TransLink bus services.[7]
Around the station is the West Side Off-Leash Dog Area and Grimston Park.
