Commercial–Broadway is a train station in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is located at 2550 Commercial Drive. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for both their Expo and Millennium Lines. It is one of the busiest stations for the SkyTrain.
The station was built in 1985. Austrian company Architektengruppe U-Bahn built the station so that people were able to move around on transit during Expo 86.[1] Much of the track and the station was once home to the Central Park Line for the former British Columbia Electric Railway.[2] Before it became the station it is now, it was originally two stations Broadway station for the Expo Line which opened on December 11, 1985 and Commercial Drive station for the Millennium Line which opened on August 31, 2002.[3] On September 7, 2009, TransLink decided to merge both of the station to become Commercial–Broadway so that it wouldn't be confused with the Broadway–City Hall station.[4]
It is both a below-grade and elevated station, featuring 4 tracks with 2 on each level, and 2 centre platforms with 1 side platform. For the Expo Line, it is preceded by Main Street–Science World towards Waterfront and ends at Nanaimo towards either King George or Production Way–University. For the Millennium Line, it is preceded by the terminus at VCC–Clark and ends at Renfrew towards Lafarge Lake–Douglas. In 2024, it was ranked at #3 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[5]
In 2017, TransLink ordered new upgrades for the station. This included a new platform, upgrades for weather, better movement through the station, and both a new plaza for pedestrians and a new bike parkade. It was completed on February 2, 2019.[6][7]
The station serves as a connection for the 99 B-Line TransLink bus service.[8]
Around the station is the Little Italy area of Vancouver and the Rio Theatre.
