Granville is a train station in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is located at 1399 Main Street. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for their Expo Line.
The station was built in 1985 and opened on December 11. Austrian company Architektengruppe U-Bahn built the station so that people were able to move around on transit during Expo 86.[1] Much of the track and the station was once home to the Central Park Line for the former British Columbia Electric Railway.[2] The station is named after Granville Street, which in turn is named after British Liberal statesman Granville Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl Granville.[3] On September 22, 2006, the entrance on Dunsmuir Street opened.[4]
It is an underground station, featuring 2 tracks and split platforms. It is preceded by Burrard towards Waterfront and ends at Stadium–Chinatown towards either King George or Production Way–University. In 2024, it was ranked at #4 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[5]
On May 8, 2018, TransLink ordered new upgrades for the station under their Granville Station Escalator Replacement Project.[6] On May 26, six escalators were replaced in the station and the Seymour Street entrance along with the Granville/Seymour concourse were both closed during construction.[7] The project was completed on July 17, 2020.[8]
The station serves as a connection for the 4, 7, 10, 14, 16, 17, 20, 50, 240, 241, 246, 247, 250, 250A, 253, 254, 257, N8, N9, N10, N15, N17, N19, N20, N22, N24, and N35 TransLink bus service.
There are many attraction that are around the station. These include the Granville Entertainment District, Pacific Centre, Vancouver Centre, Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson Square, Provincial Court of British Columbia, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of British Columbia, and the Vancouver branch of the Federal Court and Court of Appeal.
