Stadium–Chinatown station

Stadium–Chinatown (體育館/華埠(唐人街)) is a train station in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is located at 590 Beatty Street. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for their Expo Line.
The station was built in 1985 and opened on December 11. Austrian company Architektengruppe U-Bahn built the station so that people were able to move around on transit during Expo 86.[1] Much of the track and the station was once home to the Central Park Line for the former British Columbia Electric Railway.[2] Before it became the station it is now, it was originally named Stadium station. This was because its proximity near BC Place, home of the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps FC, as well as, Rogers Arena, home of the Vancouver Canucks. On October 14, 2004, TransLink decided to rename the station to Stadium–Chinatown to honour the history and culture of the nearby popular Chinatown district.[3]
It is an elevated station, featuring 3 tracks and a centre platform with a spare side platform. There are three entrances for the station. Beatty Street in the west of the station, Keefer Place on the concourse level of the station which is shared with the Beatty entrance, and the Expo Boulevard entrance on the east end. The Keefer Place entrance features both English and traditional Chinese characters (""Stadium–Chinatown Station 體育館/華埠(唐人街)"), making it the only station in system to have another language other than English.[4] It is preceded by Granville towards Waterfront and ends at Main Street–Science World towards either King George or Production Way–University. In 2024, it was ranked at #9 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[5]
The station serves as a connection for the 5, 6, 17, 23, 240, 241, 246, 247, 250, 250A, 253, 254, 257, N15, and N24 TransLink bus service.
There are many attraction that are around the station. These include the BC Place, Rogers Arena, Chinatown, the International Village, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Andy Livingstone Park, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the main Central Branch and Library Square branches for the Vancouver Public Library, the campus for Vancouver Community College, Victory Square, Beatty Street Drill Hall, and the former site of the Plaza of Nations.
