Metrotown is a train station in Burnaby, British Columbia. It is located at 4401 Beresford Street. It is owned by TransLink and is used by the SkyTrain in the Metro Vancouver area for their Expo Line. It is one of the busiest stations for the SkyTrain.
The station was built in 1985 and opened on December 11. Austrian company Architektengruppe U-Bahn built the station so that people were able to move around on transit during Expo 86.[1] Much of the track and the station was once home to the Central Park Line for the former British Columbia Electric Railway.[2] A pedestrian overpass was built connecting the station with the nearby Eaton Centre Metrotown after it opened in 1989. On November 15, 2016, the overpass was demolished and replaced. Many ere t happy with the closure because used delays during construction.[3][4]
It is an elevated station, featuring two tracks and a centre platform. It is preceded by Patterson station towards Waterfront and ends at Royal Oak towards either King George or Production Way–University. In 2024, it was ranked at #2 of the 54 busiest stations in use for the SkyTrain.[5]
In 2017–18, TransLink built and rebuilt three new stationhouses from the station. The centre stationhouse opened on March 24, 2017, with the west stationhouse opening on July 24, 2017, and the east stationhouse being rebuilt and opened on March 19, 2018.[6][7][8]
The station serves as a connection for the 19, 31, 49, 110, 116, 119, 129, 130, 144, 146, 147, 222, and 430 TransLink bus services.[9]
